The nervous system is what creates your everyday life. It holds all learnings from the past, and autonomically projects them into your present – including self-protection protocols, your capacity to manage stress, and ability to feel pleasure.

When it comes to the nervous system, most think the goal is regulation. But really, that’s because most of us are chronically dysregulated. Regulation, and learning how to self-regulate and safely co-regulate, is therefore a tool, and one piece of the puzzle to shift from a prolonged survival state. 

The true focus, and greater, overall goal is actually Nervous System Resiliency.

A resilient nervous system is one that can safely oscillate between regulation and dysregulation – states that are both needed to navigate the world we live in. It is not chronically stuck in a survival state, and not desperately clinging to feeling calm and balanced.

A resilient nervous system is strong, grounded and tapped in. It is influenced by the present moment, and not the past.

A resilient nervous system is one that has learned from trauma, but isn’t a victim to it. 

Somatic work strengthens this sense of resilience. It provides tools that allow us to bridge the mind and the body, and through this, we can access our internal intelligence system and relieve physiological stress and emotional stagnancy. 

We can effectively communicate to the nervous system: 

I am safe. 

I can choose how I feel.

I can choose how I think. 

I can choose how I act.
